Erquy, the peaceful village of Asterix and Obelix? By Toutatis, it seems the two heroes once hunted wild boar on the cape and heartily enjoyed cervoise (Gaulish beer) in Erquy’s village square. Indeed, Asterix’s creator, Uderzo, is said to have drawn inspiration from this scallop capital to imagine the indomitable Gauls’ village, known for its festive and combative spirit.
This revelation has become an obsession in Erquy, as the evidence piles up: the menhir quarry and sandstone quarries, the place called Tu-Es-Roc (a play on words meaning “You Are Rock”), and the three stones west of the cape that appear in Uderzo’s albums… Rumor even has it that Falbala’s great-great-granddaughter still turns heads during long winter evenings in the village. Those Bretons are truly mad!
